In this news report, Winnie relates on the times she went through in her singing career.    For a long time, despite being recognised for her talent in singing, many people, including the boss of her previous record company and Hong Kong star Jackie Chan, did not believe that she would make it and even said, "If she ever becomes popular, I will chop my head off."  Nevertheless, Winnie is thankful to Jonathan and the boss of Rock Records, Sam, for having confidence in her and she became a successful Diva through the ballad "Understanding".

It all began when Winnie signed on with her first record company in her singing career through her father's long-time friend who owned a record company.  Although the record company specialized in making albums of songs in Taiwanese language, Winnie had her first album, in Mandarin Chinese, called "Lonely Winter".  The boss was so impressed by her album that he got his 2 other artistes to record a duet in Mandarin Chinese, against the long-standing practice of the company.

Winnie had intended to further her studies overseas after her graduation, however, through a friend's recommendation, she became the artiste of Decca Records and stayed on in Taiwan, after the first record company closed shop.

Winnie remembered she did not receive much attention when she was in Decca Records.  She had to multi-task and took on many roles in the process of making her album, including getting composers to pen songs for her and her good friend Huang Shujun ultimately wrote the classic hit "Waiting Behind you" for her.

"At that time, Huang Shujun did not dare make known that he wrote the song as he was on an exclusive contract to write songs for his own record company.  However, in order to help me, he used a nickname instead."  Winnie recalled.  At that time, the copyright royalties was less than NT5 per album and she simply couldn't survive on such meagre income.  She had to teach 15 classes of piano and 10 private lessons a week in order to make ends meet.  She sighed and said, "At that time, all I looked forward to was for the contract to end, forget about singing and just teach piano."

After she has released her album "Flower Times", one day, while Jonathan Lee heard her Mandarin cover of the song "Promise me" over the radio when he was on his way to work.  He was so attracted by her singing that he passed word to her through other parties, telling her that her album "Flower Times" was the best album he had heard in that year.  When Jonathan got to know that her contract with Decca Records had ended, he got her to join Rock Records and through his transformation, she became successful.

"There was an occasion later when I met an ex-colleague from Decca Records and she told me that after I had left Decca, the boss ever said that if I were to become famous he would chop off his head. A few years later, there was once I met the boss and he asked if I am keen to return to the company.  She then cheekily aired a snuffle and everyone laughed."

Although she looked glamorous in Rock Records, she did not have too easy a time.  In the beginning, besides Jonathan Lee and Sam (the boss), the others were rather against the idea of signing her on.  Even when Jonathan played the song "understanding" for Jackie Chan to hear, he said, "If this song can sell, I will chop off my head."  Nobody could ever believe that the album sold more than 500,000 copies subsequently.  When asked by the reporter if she ought to "claim" back the heads of Jackie and her ex-boss, she laughed and said cheek-in-tongue, "Oh ya!  Maybe I should."

Winnie knows that success does not happen overnight.  Even her love life was not that smooth-sailing.  She is the youngest at home and has always been well-loved and protected at home.  When she was in middle school, she met her first love and took him to be her life partner.  Although they broke off for a few years in-between, they met again and kept their relationship.  They subsequently got married after she graduated.  She little expected that their relationship which had lasted for 10 years fumbled just a year after their marriage.  One day, he came home and asked for a divorce as he had another woman.  Years later, Jonathan subsequently penned the song "Understanding" based on this real-life experience of hers.

She recalled that when she got the song from Jonathan, she thought to herself, "What a rotten song, so difficult to sing!".  Even Jonathan apologized to her at that time and told her the song will not sell.

After her broken marriage, Winnie went through a very difficult time.  She had to pretend to be strong in the face of others, especially not wanting her parents to worry for her,  but deep within her, she was extremely hurt and often cried in her own private corner.  Fortunately, the father of one of her piano students was a psychiatrist and with his professional help, she managed to recover emotionally.

Although she had gone through the painful experience of a failed marriage, she nevertheless still looks forward to having a love relationship.  She laughed and said, "when love meets, who cares!"

Several years ago, she ended a relationship with her younger boyfriend, nevertheless she is still hopeful and works hard to keep herself pretty.  "Earlier on,  I really had the desire to get married and start my own family.  But my friends told me not to be silly and discouraged me by saying, 'all of us are trying to get out and here you are, trying to jump in.'   Now, through a friend's recommendation, she got acquainted with a foreigner lawyer, Peter, and is enjoying being in love again.

Winnie will be holding her first ticketing concert on 30th June and 1st July in Taipei TICC.  She has been practising her dances very hard and keeping herself in a tiptop condition for the concert.  Michael Jackson is her idol and she admires his dancing greatly.  She had been watching his concert DVD and hoping to learn something from him.  "Michael's simply fabulous!  Although there had been many negative news about him, but on stage, nobody can be as charismatic as him,"  Winnie said.

Many people would probably dropped their jaws to know that the healing Diva would idolize Michael Jackson, the dancing king, so much.  But as one listens to how she relates, one can sense that she is indeed a true-blue fan.  "I have a complete collection of all his works, from as early as the days of Jackson Five.  Many years ago, when he had his concert in Taipei, I spent NT4,000 and bought the most expensive ticket to see him on stage.  I remembered that a young girl sitting beside me fainted in excitement the moment Michael went on stage and I thought, oh, what a pity!"

In her own concert, she had initially thought of singing one of Michael's slow ballad.  But after considering her own long list of songs, she had to give up on the idea.  She hopes to have the same charisma on stage, just like Michael, and that she she bring the best performance to her audience.
