Every year, almost certainly, Winnie will visit her parents in Shenyang during Chinese New Year.  She will stay up with them through the night on the Eve as the Chinese believe that by doing so, the parents will live longer. Myth or not, it is indeed a very thoughtful way for the younger ones to show concern for the older folks at home.

Winnie's parents moved back to Shenyang, their ancestral hometown, many years ago. and being in Taiwan, Winnie rarely has the opportunity to see them. Nevertheless, she will call them on the phone everyday so that they will not be worried about her. With technological advances in communication these days, Winnie has installed a computer for them so that they can see her through the web frequently almost any time. As and when she has some time off from her work, she will fly over to visit them.

However busy she is, Winnie always make it a point to keep her time for her parents during the Chinese New Year, even though this may mean turning down many invitations to perform during the festive season, especially in the States or even Singapore/ Malaysia.

This year, Winnie however has agreed to appear on a festive special live telecast in Shanghai on Chinese New Year's Eve. In this TV show by Dragon TV, she will be taking on-the-spot song dedications from the audience.

Winnie shared that she and Sandy, her agent who is going to accompany her to Shanghai will be celebrating and tossing a prosperity dish of "Yu-sheng" together after the TV Show.  Yu-sheng is a unique Singapore salad and the ingredients in the salad comprise of raw fish slices, finely grated vegetables and colourful garnishes.  The act of tossing the salad is a Chinese New Year tradition in Singapore and it is believed that the higher one toss the salad, the better one's luck will be.  Sandy had specially gotten ingredients for this dish from Singapore and she hopes that although they could not be with their families on the eve of Chinese New Year, nevertheless, they can experience the joyful atmosphere of the festival while working.

Winnie added, "Shanghai is not too far from Shenyang.  I reckon that I can fly back to Shenyang easily from Shanghai the following day and be re-united with my parents again in no time, as such I decided to take part in the TV show."

Knowing that she will not be home with her parents on the Eve, Winnie specially flew to Shenyang earlier to be with them.  Although it is extremely cold in Shenyang, the dreadful low temperatures of minus twenty to thirty degree Celsius in this northern city of China is nothing compared to the warmth of seeing her parents.
